2018 GAAC Juried Exhibition

Contrasts and Contradictions – the Polarizing Qualities of Glass

Glass has many contradictory and opposing qualities. It can be fragile and strong, large and small, hot and cold, hard and soft, rough and smooth, present and absent, beautiful and repulsive, heavy and weightless, transparent and opaque, colourful and clear. These qualities can serve as metaphors for communicating ideas which can be both harmonizing and polarizing.

This juried exhibition focuses on emerging, mid-career and established artists from across Canada who employ glass as their primary medium. Functional and conceptual work in all glass techniques are accepted, including fusing, pate de verre, flameworking, kilncasting, hotcasting, glass blowing, hotworking, lamination, carving, engraving, multi-media and works with new technologies involving glass.
Work must be recent (made within the past 3 years) and must connect to the theme of contrasts and contradictions.
